Tony Todd, the actor best known for his haunting portrayal of the killer in Candyman, as well as roles in the Final Destination franchise and voicing Venom in Spider-Man 2, passed away on November 6 at his home in Los Angeles. He was 69.
Without giving a reason for his death, his rep confirmed it to Deadline. Born in Washington, DC, in 1954, Todd was raised in Connecticut, where he first developed his love for acting.
His major contributions to horror movie, especially his lead role in the 1992 drama Candyman, earned him the Lifetime Achievement Award at the New York City Horror Film Festival.
In his new job, Todd starred in Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2, discussing his description of Venom due to its release last month.
” Our pal Tony Todd passed away in the arms of Insomniac Games. With his unmatched speech and presence, he delighted our studio and many fans around the world as well as Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 during the production of Marvel’s film. We are Venom… forever”, Insomniac said in a blog on X.
Despite his musical origins, Todd established an extensive display presence. His extraordinary career spanned several generations, featuring in over 240 film and television performances, including Battalion, the 1990 type of Night of the Living Dead, The Crow, and images in Star Trek and Final Destination line.
His belated appearance is scheduled in Final Destination: Dynasties, anticipated for launch in 2025.
