I honestly ca n’t recall my most recent viewing of” Saturday Night Live.” As a child in the’ 90s, it was a regular ceremony. Then it simply stopped being interesting. A skit show that is n’t funny and explicitly partisan in its handling of politics is the only thing that is worse than a skit show that is n’t funny. You do n’t need to watch SNL to realize how viciously anti-conservative it has been for a while. You learn about it on social internet when they engage in especially bad behavior.

Eight years ago, SNL reacted to Donald Trump’s win with Kate McKinnon portraying Hillary Clinton singing Leonard Cohen’s” Hallelujah”.
This cold open caused controversy because it set a gloomy, sad voice without actually trying to be funny, and it was a significant departure from the present.  ,
After Trump’s defeat on Tuesday, I decided I’d have to see how SNL was going to manage Trump’s latest victory.  ,
Of course, it was a heavy-handed attempt to ridicule Donald Trump’s 2024 success, devoted to political fear-mongering far more than real fun. You already knew it would be terrible. Four cast members sat in a column, looking like they were going to a funeral, before the cold empty started. It was obvious at this point that this would be worse than the Kate McKinnon monologue from eight years prior.  ,
The cast, who I do n’t know by name, sets the tone by describing Trump’s victory as” shocking and even horrifying,” without even considering that they may still have electors who are content with the election results. And considering the great jump to Trump in 2024 over 2020, they may also, even if it’s only a couple. Instead, left-wing claims made that Trump” tried to immediately overturn the results of the last election” and that he “openly called for revenge against his political foes” were made, and that” there are no handrails” to “protect the people who are brave enough to speak out against him” were made.

The cast then transformed into a caricature of servile Trump supporters in their inflated praise of Trump, pretending to be worried that Trump will target his political enemies and pretending to be Joe Biden.
This was n’t clever satire, it was a prolonged diatribe against Trump and his supporters, with every line underscoring SNL’s belief that a Trump presidency is terrifying. For example, the characters rudely promise to “rat out” someone who supports Kamala Harris and deliberately declare” Hail Trump” as though everyone who supports him is extremist or dangerous.
At least now I wo n’t have to watch it again.
Watch the cold open below if you do n’t want to waste five minutes of your life watching it.
