A fire in Orange County was the cause of a death for a New York Parks staff on Saturday evening. Due to the dry conditions, the flames, which are one of many, have caused air quality instructions in both New Jersey and New York.
Dariel Vasquez, 18, was killed when a branch fell on him while fighting a flames along the New York-New Jersey border near Greenwood Lake in Sterling Forest. The position parks and recreation department’s assistant was Vasquez.
The event is being looked into by New York State Police.
Governor of New York Kathy Hochul expressed regret over the incident, saying, as reported by Fox News,” I am deeply saddened by the passing of one of our New York State Parks employees while responding to a wildfire in Orange County yesterday. My blessings go out to his family, friends, and coworkers during this difficult day”.

The largest flames, known as the Jennings Creek fire, has expanded to nearly four square kilometers near the border in Passaic County, New Jersey. It is said to be dangerous for ten homes and buildings in New Jersey’s Long Pond Ironworks Historic District and ten more than ten others in Greenwood Lake, New York.
Due to the toxic air quality caused by the smoke, health recommendations were issued for some areas of New York, including New York City, and northern New Jersey. The recommendations urge people to reduce intense backyard activity, especially young children, the elder, and those with asthma or heart disease.
A 175-acre flames in Passaic County, as well as several smaller fires in different parts of the state, is also a source of concern for firefighters in New Jersey.
However, in Massachusetts, arid conditions and strong breezes fueled a fire that burned over 200 acres in Lynn Woods Reservation, a large area north of Boston. ” This is a clean spell we have not seen during this time of year in some years”, the Lynn Fire Department stated, attributing the fire’s power to lower moisture, wind, and dried leaves.
As the Northeast is expected to continue with dry conditions, firefighters and forest organizations are advising people against exterior burning.
