The Associated Press explained the race’s justification for the nighttime call.
Democrat Sen. Bob Casey’s aid in Philadelphia and its burgeoning suburbs was cut by Republican nominee David McCormick, who blocked the establishment’s victory when The Associated Press called the competition on Thursday.
When AP called the competition at 4:09 p.m., McCormick was in the lead by more than 30 000 vote, but there were not enough seats in the james support to compensate.
Although McCormick did n’t win in Philadelphia, he made significant inroads into the Democratic stronghold, mirroring trends seen in Republican victories across the country, including Donald Trump’s. For example, while Casey still led in Philadelphia with 78 % of the vote, this was an eight-point fall from his previous performance. From the Poconos and the state’s central regions to Western Pennsylvania, McCormick won in every other area. He even narrowed Casey’s result in the Philadelphia cities. In Bucks County, Casey’s percentage dropped to less than one level, compared to his six-point lead it in 2018.

” McCormick is up 30, 679 seats with more to travel, as rose red Cambria County is also outstanding”, Elizabeth Gregory, McCormick’s communications director, said in a statement Thursday evening. ” While seats continue to be counted, any way you slice it, Dave McCormick will be the next United States Senator from Pennsylvania”.
The competition for McCormick was called out by another media outlets and networks, but Casey’s plan refused to acknowledge the reality. ” With tens of thousands more seats to be counted, we are committed to ensuring every Pennsylvanian’s voting is heard and comfortable that at the end of that operation, Senator Casey may become reelected”, Maddy McDaniel, director for Bob Casey for Senate, said in a statement Thursday night.

Casey still has n’t conceded the race. He continued to insist that more calculating had to be done on Tuesday night when he posted a video on social media.
