According to a recent Slack statement, the buzz surrounding conceptual AI may be starting to wane.
The study of more than 17, 000 office workers globe, published on Nov. 12, revealed a connect between AI dreams and implementation rates. The statement focused on how leaders can address issues surrounding AI implementation at work. After almost a month of growing excitement about AI, there is a slight decline in global attention.
” AI adoption is n’t just about enterprises, it’s also about employees”, said Christina Janzer, head of Slack’s Workforce Lab, in a press release. Businesses must assist employees in accelerating their AI journey and overcoming the social and corporate obstacles that are preventing them as sentiments about AI are declining.
AI does not live up to the hype.
Between September 2023 and March 2024, deployment of AI increased steadily in Slack. At its peak in March 2024, about one-third ( 32 % ) of desk workers surveyed had used AI to do their jobs. In the previous three months, this percentage has started to decline or mountain.
Specifically:
- The U. S. saw just a single percentage point of growth in AI usage, from 32 % to 33 % of desk workers.
- ” Excitement” about AI helping with work tasks among global workers dropped by 6 %.
- Over the past three months in the U.S., excitement about AI decreased by 9 %.
- Over the past three months in France, excitement about AI decreased by 12 %.
Almost 99 % of the professionals surveyed indicated they would invest in artificial intelligence this year.
Almost half of people may find it unfavorable to reveal their AI to managers.
Many people are reluctant to disclose their AI use, despite top-down activities being put forth by some businesses. 48 % of survey respondents said they would feel uneasy telling their supervisors how they use AI. They feared a view of AI employ as cheating, a source of the less qualified, or laziness.
Importantly, Slack only inquired about respondents ‘ ability to use AI without asking them whether they felt uncomfortable talking to their manager. People who are more likely to use AI at labor who feel at ease discussing theirs do so. However, the business culture and the tech reflect these concerns.
Notice: Organizations and protection teams may encounter security risks as a result of AI.
In general, the usage of much-hyped technology tends to level out over period. Slack noted that the prospective “lazy” and” cheating” charges, the perception that AI is” no still living up to the hype”, and a lack of instruction in using AI are the primary factors that affect people ‘ perspectives of the technology.
Employees are concerned that AI wo n’t make administrative tasks less difficult.
Artificial advocates have long been saying that the technology helps businesses by automating repetitive tasks and allowing more time to devote to worthwhile tasks that help an firm’s bottom line. But, Slack’s report indicated that companies have n’t seen reduced administrative tasks over the past few decades. Instead, many employees worry that AI will cause more plod work and a rise in task.
Employers are concerned that the time saved by AI will really raise their load, with executives anticipating that they will perform more work, moving more quickly, according to Janzer. ” This presents an opportunity for officials to redefine what they mean by’ efficiency,’ inspiring people to increase the quality of their work, not just the quantity”.
When questioned about what they would like to do with the day that AI has saved, respondents said they wanted time to work on non-work-related projects and develop their skills. However, when people were asked what they might do with excess time, they listed administrative responsibilities and additional project work.
How you team leaders who want to advertise AI alter their minds?

Slack also suggested that businesses use brief, powerful training sessions, or “microlearning,” to teach AI to employees.
According to Chrissie Arnold, director of Workforce Lab’s future of work programs,” AI training programs do n’t need to be a heavy lift.” ” At Slack, we’ve had really amazing benefits from just 10 minutes a day of AI microlearning”.
