According to business spokesman Emily Liu, the social media platform Bluesky gained more than one million new customers in the week following the US presidential election. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, reiterated his support for Donald Trump on X, previously Twitter, leading to a rise in the number of people who wanted to use an alternative social media platform.
” We’re seeing increased activity levels across all different types of engagement”, Liu said, as quoted by the New York Times.
The majority of these fresh customers on Bluesky are from the United States, Canada, and Britain, according to a New York Times report.
Founded in 2019 by previous Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, Bluesky transitioned from an invite-only system to an empty one in February. It already boasts 15 million customers.
Users of social media sites have praised Bluesky, saying it avoids US elections. ” Bluesky is excellent, no US politicians or phishing- found the old tech Online again”, wrote one X consumer. Another person described the software as a “breath of new air”, noting it contains” no machines, no spam, and no false information”.
Trump has recently announced that X-owner Musk and American entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy will lead the” Department of Government Efficiency” ( DOGE ) in his administration. In addition to speaking at his plan protest in October at Madison Square Garden in New York City, Musk has consistently backed Trump in the US national poll of 2024.

Many high-profile characters, including celebrities, politicians, and media characters, have also just joined or become more effective on Bluesky. A growing number of left-leaning users are using the platform to share diverse material, from personal stories to social commentary.
Despite this new development, Bluesky remains considerably smaller than Threads, Meta’s rival to X, which reported 275 million monthly active users earlier this month.
