The Old Firehouse Senior Center,  , 100 Avon Belden Road , in , Avon Lake, was the page of a free drive-thru meal for veterans , Nov. 12.
In partnership with the metropolis of , Avon Lake, Infinite Helping Hands,  , Hospice of the Western Reserve and Busch Funeral , and Crematory Services, the occasion served over 20 soldiers with a food and other things from each business involved.
” We’re all working up”, said , Sally Tomko, chairman of company relationships for Infinite Helpings Hands. ” This is five times now that we’ve done this for the soldiers of , Avon Lake”.
Tomko claimed Salad Kraze provided package meals with turkey sandwiches and chips for the meals in order to help support a nearby company.
Biscuits and other things were provided in sacks provided by Busch Funeral Services.
A bottle of water was provided for each snacks.
” Busch loves to honor our soldiers, we do a lot of programs to recognize them while they’re still with us and recognize them for their service”, said , Heidi Thimke, priest at Busch Funeral and Crematory Services.
Since the occasion required membership,  , Hospice of the American Reserve , was able to provide certificates with each soldier’s brand to recognize their services, as well as a pin.
The state of Ohio is adorned with an recognized former flag over the state of Ohio, which is depicted on the button.
” We give those to each former that we recognize in our service and festivities throughout the year”, said , Nathan Gradisher , company relations director for , Hospice of the Western Reserve.
Pat Quinn, an , Avon Lake , native and , U. S. Navy , senior, attended the event to aid visit and respect veterans by giving them a salute upon receiving their diplomas.
” This is a wonderful thing, and whatever you can do for the doctors, we appreciate”, Quinn said.
According to , Mike Kral,  , Avon Lake , entertainment center manager, the celebration has been well-received by soldiers and their people since its founding.
Tomko claimed that the annual celebration has grown and that some soldiers are still present.
” It’s just an honor to do it, to remember and honor them”, she said. Without the soldiers of , the United States,” we would not have our privileges in this land.”
It simply touches my heart, in Thimke’s words, to be able to contribute even a little bit to making their time better, for sure.
