President-elect Donald Trump announced Friday that North Dakota Gov. The newly formed National Energy Council will also be led by Doug Burgum ( R ), who he chose to lead the Department of Interior.

” This Council will oversee the path to U. S. ENERGY DOMINANCE by cutting red tape, enhancing personal sector assets across all sectors of the Economy, and by focusing on Development over historic, but entirely superfluous, rules”, the statement reads.
Trump even stated that Burgum would be a member of the National Security Council.

Trump announced on Thursday that Burgum may be chosen to lead the Department of Interior as secretary. Burgum may help the Trump presidency raise oil production on public lands in that capacity.

Early in the 2024 GOP presidential primary, Burgum attempted to challenge Trump, but he dropped out of the race in December. At one point, he was rumored to be on Trump’s vice-president short-list.
