According to a police statement released on Wednesday, a 14-year-old from New Jersey was detained and charged with fire for allegedly starting a fire in Evesham that burned 52 acres of land and threatened properties.
Fire authorities are also investigating a possible connection between that blaze, which occurred on Oct. 30 and took days to kill, and , another much larger blaze in the same place that began on Nov. 7, the day the girl was arrested, Evesham Township Police said.
The girl, from Marlton, New Jersey, was charged with second-degree aggravated fire as well as causing or risking common harm or injury.
The teen’s title was not released due to his age. He was awaiting his initial court appearance while he was being held in Middlesex Juvenile Detention Center.
At its height, the earlier wildfire , threatened 15 properties in Evesham Township, rescuers told the Marlton-Evesham Daily Voice. No emergency were needed.
Police investigated, determined that reason was burning, and tracked down the adolescent” as the area who willfully started this fireplace”, their statement said.
The following incident,  , dubbed the Bethany Run Wildfire, finally consumed 375 acre across Evesham and Voorhees settlements, and threatened more than 100 buildings, according to fire officials. Evacuation orders were issued the day of Nov. 7 but lifted by 6: 30 p. m. that morning.
As a result of falling water levels, New Jersey issued a rainfall warning on Wednesday despite the state’s history of several wildfires that are roiling throughout the state. Over the weekend, dust from the flames drifted across the Hudson River to create for , foggy conditions in New York City, prompting city officials to issue an , heat superior health advisory , on Sunday.
