Following Muhammad Yunus ‘ inauguration of Dhaka as the interim government led by the Bangladesh-based human rights organization Odhikar on August 8, at least eight people were killed in extrajudicial killings between August 9 and September 30. Odhikar compiled its three-month human right record for July-September based on information released by media outlets and information from human rights activists affiliated with it.
One of these eight victims was allegedly the victim of police torture, another allegedly the victim of abuse by the ministry of narcotics control, and three others were victims of joint forces ‘ alleged torture to death. Moreover, three people were shot dead by combined forces.
From August 9 to September 30 at least 52 people were killed and 1, 308 persons injured in political violence, the statement says.
A total of 67 persons were lynched between July and September. Of them, 36 were lynched from July 1 to August 5, and 31 from August 9 to September 30. From August 9 to September 30, but, no cases of reported enforced disappearances were reported.
According to data collected by Odhikar, between August 9 and September 30 four editors were injured, two were assaulted, three threatened, cases were filed against three while they were carrying out their professional obligations.
The document says 1, 581 individuals, including children, were killed and over 18, 000 injured during the student-led mass revolt from July 1 to August 5, citing data from the Kids Movement Against Discrimination and the Jatiya Nagorik Committee.
