Florida Democratic member Debbie Wasserman Schultz on Friday claimed that Tulsi Gabbard, US President-elect Trump’s pull for director of national intelligence, is “likely a Soviet asset”, sparking widespread condemnation.
In an appointment with MSNBC, Wasserman made the statement.
” She is considered, by most evaluations, basically a Russian property and would be the most dangerous”, Schultz said. The host then interjected and asked,” Do you think that’s what you’d like to do?”
Wasserman stood strong in her state, responding,” Yes. There’s no problem. She would serve as the DNI’s director general, remain in charge of managing our whole intelligence community, keep all of our most important intelligence information and secrets, and basically act as a direct line to our enemies, in my opinion.
She also pointed to Gabbard’s 2017 meeting with Palestinian President Bashar al-Assad, who has been accused of using chemical weapons against his own people.
” Tulsi Gabbard is someone who has met with battle thieves, violated the Department of State’s advice, and quietly went to Syria to join with Assad, who gassed and attacked his own people with chemical weapons”, Schultz said.
Wasserman’s declaration has drawn widespread criticism on social media. Every Democratic member of Congress is a “Ukrainian asset,” according to one customer on X.
Tesla CEO Elon Musk even criticised Wasserman’s say, saying,” Debbie thinks that talking fast is the same as thinking effectively, she is really no smart”.
Another user suggested that Gabbard if” sue Debbie Wasserman for defamation”, referencing Nicholas Sandmann’s complaint against CNN.
One person called Wasserman “dishonest”, commenting,” She entirely choked on the terms as they were coming up lol… she knew she was being entirely dishonest”.
Gabbard, a former Democrat congresswoman from Hawaii and 2020 presidential candidate, switched to the Democratic party in 2021. She has been a vociferous critic of the Democratic party, which she again called a “bunch of militarists”.
Gabbard has previously been accused of having ties to Russia. Hillary Clinton, the former secretary of state, alleged that Russia had favored Gabbard in 2019, citing alleged help from Russian press.
Gabbard has served in the US Army Resources for many years and is now a lieutenant colonel.
