The situation in the northern Gaza strip has deteriorated significantly, according to Norwegian Refugee Council ( NRC ) director Jan Egeland, who described it as a “dystopian horror film.”
Egeland described his recent trip to Gaza in an appointment with the Die Zeit regular that was published in German, saying the situation had “gotten much worse” than it had before.
According to Egeland,” we drove through countless places of entirely destroyed houses in Gaza City,” while mentioning that some refugees from the northeast of the area were presently residing in” those piles of rubble.”
Israel has stated that Hamas’s reorganization must be stopped by its activities in the troubled northeast of Gaza.
As a result of its activities in Rafah and the northern immigrant regions of Jabaliya and Beit Lahia, the Israeli army reported that a number of extremists had been killed, positions had been destroyed, and weapons caches had been discovered.
Looters goal aid vehicles
According to Egeland, any humanitarian assistance entering the country has been affected by the erosion of law and order.
Cars that cross the Gaza Strip are frequently attacked by robbers on the roads we are assigned by the Israeli government, according to Egeland.
The NRC main witnessed it first at the border crossing between Kerem Shalom and Rafah, in southern Gaza.
” Even 100 people were standing it with stones, waiting to prevent the cars that were coming behind us, and to leap on them”, he added.
Ban on UNRWA had upset NRC businesses
This weekend, a UN-backed judgment warned that drought was imminent in northeastern Gaza, adding that at least 100, 000 individuals have had to escape the harsh circumstances.
Egeland expressed concern about the potential ban on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees ( UNRWA ), the main UN agency providing assistance to Palestinians in the Middle East, including in Gaza.
A legislation recently passed in Israel’s parliament bans Hamas and extremism, according to the country’s parliament.
According to Egeland, the support organization’s schools house many refugees and displaced people, which we then provide for, adding that NRC can and will attempt to coordinate its assistance through various NGOs.
” But many other issues will just collapse and make our work more hard”, he concluded.
