The prosecution was given a deadline of December 17 by the International Crimes Tribunal ( Bangladesh ), a domestic war crimes body, on Monday to finish its investigation into the case involving ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and 13 others. They are accused of crimes against society related to the deadly July-Aug rebellion.
The three-member ICT, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Mozumder, had issued an arrest warrant for Hasina on October 17 in connection with her alleged responsibility in” crimes against humanity” and “genocide”. Chief attorney Muhammad Tajul Islam stated that Hasina “had better order duty” over several killings, acts of genocide, and crimes against humanity committed in the country over the past 16.5 years of her career.
Hasina “fled the state,” so authorities were unable to carry out the arrest warrant. We have requested that an Interpol red see be issued against her, Tajul said. She is currently in India, according to information we have obtained from our government, and we will ask her repatriation in accordance with the diplomatic agreement. The procedure is underway”.
BNP unhappy over no talk on poll timeline by Yunus
Muhammad Yunus, interim chief executive of the interim government, addressed the nation with disappointment, according to the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, who claimed he had not provided a” clear format” for the upcoming elections. Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP secretary general, stated that his party anticipated that Yunus would recognize pressing issues and develop a “roadmap for elections that “would reflect the person’s aspirations.”
