The email claimed that continuing to support Israeli military operations by the United States was unlawful and violated federal laws like the Conventional Arms Transfer Policy, the Foreign Assistance Act, and the Leahy Laws.
The Leahy Laws were used by the Biden administration to nearly sanction an Israeli Defense Forces product, but they later changed their minds.
After receiving the letter, one signing resigned.
” One issue that drew me into this was legacy”, one of the staff said. ” If the program is continued, it will be a legacy of horror”.
The Biden administration’s failing to implement an order to Israel on October 13 that demanded” practical measures” to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza within 30 days aggravated the letter. In the text of dissention, a representative from the White House National Security Council disputed the allegations, calling their description of the situation “unfulfilling.”
