‘Thank you to … those who have tried to silence me through harassment, bullying, and threats. Without your generous contributions this event would not have been as big as it had become.’
A Berklee College of Music student has had his “Born in the Right Body: Desister and Detransitioner Awareness” campus event rescheduled after pressure, complaints and assistance from free speech supporters.
“I’m am happy to inform you that with the help of Democrats for an Informed Approach to Gender (@diagdemocrats), the MIT Open Discourse Society (MODS), along with many other groups and individuals, Born in the Right Body will be held on November 24,” student Simon Amaya Price announced on his Instagram account.
“We’re so back,” he posted.
The event will include opening remarks from MIT Open Discourse Society leadership, a presentation by Price, and a panel Q&A “with experts on desisters, detranstioners, and gender dysphoria,” the student posted on Instagram.
“Anyone and everyone is welcome to attend, provided they conduct themselves peacefully and respectfully. The event will be recorded and live streamed,” Price stated.
“Thank you to @berkleecollege and those who have tried to silence me through harassment, bullying, and threats. Without your generous contributions this event would not have been as big as it had become.”
Price previously stated this event is for a class project which he needs to pass to graduate this December.
In a previous post on Instagram, Amaya Price shared more of his backstory and the motivation for this particular project.
“As a desister myself, I find this worrying and I have decided to organize an event this Sunday to raise awareness about this community,” he wrote. “There will be security given the controversial nature of this topic.”
“I encourage everyone to attend as this is an issue very close to my heart and effects a lot of people, especially LGB and neurodivergent individuals like myself. I welcome and encourage open debate and dissenting opinions.”
