Sean Duffy, a former member from Wisconsin, will be a new member of the transport secretary, according to US President-elect Donald Trump, who will begin assembling his cabinet on Monday.
Duffy, a former reality TV host and well-known Trump supporter on cable news, presided over the committee on healthcare and housing while serving in the House for almost nine years. He already co-hosts” The Bottom Line” on Fox Business.
Trump’s announcement highlighted Duffy‘s marriage to Fox News presenter Rachel Campos-Duffy, whom he described as” a STAR on Fox News”. Duffy becomes the next Fox-affiliated television character selected for Trump’s Cabinet, following last year’s election of Pete Hegseth as defence minister.
Trump expressed confidence that Duffy may employ his legislative experience to handle infrastructure needs and increase American travel, emphasising” Safety, Efficiency, and Innovation”. In 2022, Duffy declined to undertake Wisconsin’s governor despite Trump’s assistance, citing family commitments according to his youngest boy’s heart condition.
Before his social job, Duffy competed as a logger athlete and appeared on MTV’s” The Real World: Boston” in 1997. He met his wife during MTV’s” Road Rules: All Celebrities” in 1998. Before becoming a member of the 2010 Democratic National Committee, he first served as a special counsel and district attorney in Ashland County.
The Transportation Department’s future president does face significant challenges, including high traffic mortality rates, emerging autonomous car systems, and the change to electric vehicles.
The Federal Aviation Administration and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration are among the key agencies that the office oversees in terms of travel modes.
Trump’s attitude on electric cars has been essential, describing President Joe Biden‘s EV laws as “lunacy”. However, his speech has moderated following Elon Musk’s support. EV implementation is anticipated to be decelerated, according to market observers.
Trump said that Duffy may target on” Excellence, Competence, Competitiveness and Beauty” in infrastructure development. Additionally, he added that Duffy may stop programs for aircraft and air traffic controllers that promote diversity, equity, and participation.
