The government announced on Sunday that, after emigration regulations were relaxed to increase the labor market, there will be a 10 % increase in the number of skilled worker visas issued by Germany in 2024 compared to last year.
Germany continues to face persistent labour scarcity, with around 1.34 million employment now vacant.
Berlin introduced a points-based technique known as the Opportunity Card last year that facilitates entry, study, and employment for professionals and college graduates.
Non-European Union-based qualified workers can then input Germany without first receiving a recognition of their qualifications.
How have the changes been implemented?
By the end of the year, according to a joint statement from three German government ministers, 200 000 expert permits will be awarded.
” This represents an increase of over 10 per share” compared to 2023, the statement said.
The statement added that there was “great attention” in permits to study in Germany, perfect vocational training around, or have unusual skills recognized.
More than 20 % more visa were issued to individuals from non-EU countries. The number of people seeking recognition for their foreign professional credentials increased by almost half, and the number of vocational employees ‘ salaries increased by nearly two-thirds.
Interior Minister Nancy Faeser praised the ability of “talented younger people to complete their education and studies in Germany.” People with experience and potential can then find a suitable career more quickly and easily, she continued.
The changes were likewise hailed by foreign secretary Annalena Baerbock, who highlighted the region’s continued labour scarcity.
” Every season, Germany lacks 400, 000 beautiful thoughts and even more fingers that make our country solid… This is stifling our business.” We have ultimately turned the immigration process on its head with the Proficient Immigration Act,” according to the Immigration Act.
The Opportunity Card’s operation is how?
A points program is used to identify whether someone is available for the Opportunity Card, based on skills, knowledge and experience.
For qualifying for an activity that lists a shortage of workers, limited acknowledgement of foreign qualifications, era, German and English language proficiency, and previous German-to-German ties are considered.
Those applying must show funds of about €1, 000 ($ 1, 050 ) per month for the duration of their stay.
Over the past five decades, Germany has created roughly 1.6 million work, with 89 per share of those careers being held by foreigners.
However, Angela Merkel, the then-Chancellor, criticized the country’s efforts to integrate more than a million refugees, many of whom fled the Syrian civil war. Since the start of the full-fledged conflict in Ukraine in the first 2022, another wave of immigration has reached Germany.
The far-right Alternative for Germany ( AfD ) party is currently receiving about 19 % of support nationwide, with a focus on reducing immigration in the upcoming February snap election.
