The government’s interior minister has called on local authorities and police to strengthen surveillance, including putting an end to Germany’s new restrictions on the carrying of sharp weapons, as the country’s popular Christmas markets are set to open in the upcoming weeks.
” Vulnerabilities of the blade restrictions can be punished with fines of up to €10, 000″, secretary Nancy Faeser told the Bild am Sonntag paper this weekend, promising” tight protection” and “zero compassion”.
Existing fresh safety procedures
In response to a dangerous weapon attack in August’s eastern city of Solingen, the German authorities passed innovative security legislation in October. Three people were killed and eight were hurt by the alleged Islamist perpetrator.
The new surveillance offer made it easier to carry weapons in open spaces in Germany, and it specifically outlawed knives from sporting events, fairs, fairs, and other significant events.
” The police may be present in some areas to guarantee security”, said Faeser.
Unrelated to any security vulnerabilities, there has already been one injuries at Germany’s Christmas markets this year.
A 34-year-old artist dressed as Santa Claus mysteriously crashed into a parked van in Munich earlier this month, injuring his knee severely.
