A New York judge announced on Monday that Steve Bannon’s condition prosecution on fraud charges involving an investigation into a frontier wall’s crowdsourcing money has been postponed until February 25.
After allowing prosecutors to present evidence that funds from the Wall charity were used in 2019 to pay off more than$ 600,000 in credit card debt from a separate nonprofit organization associated with Bannon, Judge April Newbauer changed the trial’s original date from December 9.
The trial was postponed, according to defense attorneys, who argued they do require more time to respond to the fresh evidence that the prosecution plans to use against them.
Bannon, who was nearly present at the hearing, confirmed his understanding of the new test date but declined to comment further. Due to the high-profile nature of the case, prosecutor’s requests for anonymity have also been addressed to the jury members, but Judge Newbauer has not yet rendered a decision on this topic.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the same attorney who went after Trump in a separate legal hush money event, charged Bannon in 2022 with crime, money laundering, scam, and other related infractions. Bannon has entered a not-guilty plea.
Similar to a prior federal investigation, Bannon was charged with the same charity structure alongside two affiliates in August 2020. Before the federal case was start, Bannon received a presidential pardon from Trump in 2021 despite his associates ‘ jail sentences last year.
The judge last year indicated that Bannon’s legal team was willing to take such a demand into account. The judge has since made strides in requesting a trial relocation.
