EXCLUSIVE — Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX ) is demanding answers from Biden administration officials regarding the loss of 150, 000 unaccompanied migrant children.

He demanded the removal of any unrelated records and addressed letters to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra.

Roy wrote that not only was the UACs been in danger, but due to poor screening, some could be a threat to other people. In addition to the 150, 000 unaccounted-for UACs, he noted that Immigration and Customs Enforcement failed to provide notices to appear in immigration judge to over 320, 000 UACs,” which limited ICE’s chance of contacting UACs when they leave HHS custody, so reducing opportunities to evaluate their safety”.

” These disturbing reports warrant conscientious monitoring. Since January 20, 2021, this letter asks you to keep all current and upcoming documents and materials related to HHS, ORR, and DHS laws regarding UACs. Specifically, I request that you take all reasonable steps to avoid the loss of all paperwork, contacts, and other information, including technological knowledge, that are or may be adaptable to this legislative inquiry”, Roy added.

The requested information includes information on whether there are more unaccounted-for UACs, how many UACs have been rescued from human trafficking procedures, correspondence with nonprofit organizations that place UACs, and any UACs ‘ criminal histories.

HHS has n’t been forthcoming with the information on UAC publicly. According to a public records lawsuit filed by the Center for Immigration Studies, the organization estimated that data transfer may take three to seven times.

Despite never getting the whole picture, troubling information about the U. S. immigration state’s handling of immigrant children have trickled through.

In a report released in February of 2018, the HHS Office of Inspector General’s audit found that the agency had not conducted timely well-being follow-up calls for 22 % of children who had been placed with sponsors, 16 % of case files lacked documentation that sponsors had undergone safety checks, and 19 % of children were released to adults before the FBI’s fingerprint and state child abuse registry offices had revealed the results to the government regarding the sponsors.

Democrats have been asking for more details about the situation for decades. In a letter to the Department of Health and Human Services asking for information on how the Office of Refugee Resettlement handles UACs, top Republicans from the House Homeland Security Committee sent it in August.

500, 000 UACs, a record number, were among the record number of migrants who crossed the southwestern boundary during President Joe Biden’s presidency. Of these, 430, 000 were released to adults in the United States, with the remainder being sent home.
