As Russia-Ukraine issue intensifies, Nordic countries—Sweden, Finland, Norway, and Denmark—are increasing efforts to prepare their communities for potential problems, urging people to stock essentials and emotionally prepare for possible military issue.
As Ukraine fights the continuous three-year Russian war in its ongoing fight against Russia, Sweden launched a new website and distributed millions of pamphlets to residents of Sweden on Monday. Denmark is emailing online tips on important supplies for managing crises for up to three days, while Norway is sending millions of pamphlets with tips on handling extreme weather, battle, and regional threats.
Sweden’s press for military readiness
Sweden, which shifted from defense non-alignment to NATO membership following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, is preparing its people for possible war. Millions of copies of the” If Crisis or War Comes” updated pamphlets have been distributed to households across Sweden by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency ( MSB ).
The Swedish agency’s producer, Mikael Frisell, said the security situation is serious and that we all need to work harder to weather the effects of various problems and eventually war.
The updated version will be available to 5.2 million homes over the next two weeks, marking the first major revision since 2018. The book offers advice on preparing for war, natural disasters, and digital or terror attacks, and emphasizes stocking up on non-perishable food, waters, and income.
What’s in Sweden’s problems preparation guide?
The recently updated book states:” Martial danger levels are rising. We must be prepared for the worst-case scenario—an armed assault on Sweden”.
The 32-page book offers advice on preparing for war, natural tragedies, and digital or terror attacks. Additionally, it recommends keeping cash on hand, keeping fruit and vegetables on hand, and hoard non-perishable food and water.
The first publication to be released in 2018 was at the height of the Cold War, in the pamphlet’s second year. The 2024 model puts more emphasis on preparing for a possible battle than its father, according to the Swedish company.
The booklet is available in printing in both Swedish and English, with modern versions offered in many languages, including Arabic, Farsi, Ukrainian, Polish, Somali, and Scandinavian.

Finland’s online program for problems preparation
Finland’s government launched a website to provide information on how to deal with problems, including military conflicts, in a split action. The Scandinavian government’s online brochure, available in several languages, outlines the government’s response to an armed assault and emphasizes the world’s self-defense features. Through effective use of electronic media, this contemporary approach aims to inform and motivate people.
Finland and Russia to construct a 200-kilometer boundary border
With a 1, 340-kilometre (830-mile ) border with Russia, Finland has long maintained a heightened state of preparedness. But, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Helsinki unveiled plans to construct a 200-kilometre borders border with Russia.
The fence, set to be completed by 2026, will stand three metres ( 10 feet ) tall and be topped with barbed wire.
Finland closed its eight borders bridges with Russia last month, citing a migrant surge Helsinki described as a cross attack being carried out by Moscow.
Norway and Denmark strengthen emergency readiness
Norway is also sending out thousands of paper copies of preparation brochures to its members. This guideline includes practical guidance for handling severe weather, battle, and other federal threats, with a focus on essential supplies like long-life food, medicines, and iodine tablets in case of radioactive accidents. Meanwhile, Denmark has opted for digital communication, emailing detailed advice to citizens on necessary supplies to manage crises for up to three days.
Why now?
The rise in preparedness campaigns in Nordic nations is a direct result of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, where worries grow about the possibility of the conflict spreading to other regions of Europe.
Ukraine recently launched its first attack on Russian soil using long-range US missiles, Bryansk, in order to attack Ukraine. This marks a significant milestone—1, 000 days since Russia’s invasion—prompting condemnation from Moscow, which views Washington’s decision to provide such missiles as a provocation signaling a new phase in the conflict.
The Nordic countries are strengthening their civil defense strategies to ensure their citizens are prepared for anything, from natural disasters to a full-fledged military conflict, as a result of Russia’s aggressive actions, which are changing the security landscape.
