Train workers going on strike will cause a full shutdown of Sydney’s rail network starting on Thursday night. After negotiations with the New South Wales ( NSW) government over pay and conditions failed, the Rail Tram and Bus Union (RTBU), according to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, is taking industrial action.
A 35-hour workweek and a 32 % give increase are requested by the RTBU over the course of four years. A 9.5 % give increase has been provided by the government over the past three years.
All Sydney intercity and suburban coach ranges are affected by the attack, which will start at 10 p.m. on Thursday and will continue until 6 a.m. on Sunday. The union rejected the government’s request to operate a 24-hour services between Hornsby and Strathfield, according to transportation secretary Jo Haylen.
Toby Warnes, the RTBU minister, criticized the government’s tactic of dialogue, stating that “we’ve seen the transport minister come out three days in the last 24 hours, which is more days the NSW state has negotiated with us.” He continued,” We’re just calling on the government to return to the table for negotiating and close this deal.”
The hit is likely to destroy commuters tremendously. Alternative buses are being planned by Transport for NSW, but it is acknowledged that they wo n’t fully fill the capacity of the train network.
Passengers are advised to prevent crowded bustiers and take into account alternate transportation options. Major events scheduled for the trip, including Pearl Jam music at Sydney Olympic Park, may become impacted, and visitors are urged to prepare accordingly.
