After the International Criminal Court ( ICC ) issued arrest warrants against him and former defense minister Yoav Gallant for alleged crimes against humanity and war crimes, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed anti-Semitism.
Netanyahu compared the ICC’s judgement to the Dreyfus trial to the Dreyfus trial, saying that it would stop similarly to the Dreyfus trial in the future.
The permits, announced in The Hague, cite alleged crimes committed from October 8, 2023, to May 20, 2024.
Netanyahu defended Israel’s military battle in Gaza, launched after Hamas’s October 7 problems, dismissing the ICC’s activities as false accusations.
He questioned Karim Khan’s honesty as the ICC’s chief counsel, suggesting that the warrants were made to discredit him from harassment claims he has received.
However, Yoav Gallant condemned the permits, calling them a “dangerous law” that equates Israel’s activities with Hamas’s violence. ” The choice… legitimises the death of children, the murder of people, and the violence of the elderly”, Gallant wrote on X.
The United States rejected the ICC’s decision, citing legal problems, while the Union deemed the subpoenas “binding”.
Amnesty International urged ICC member state to detain those accused, calling Netanyahu” a desired guy” in response to the decision. However, Hamas welcomed the decision as a step towards righteousness, while Turkey called for action against Israel’s alleged war crimes.
