Israeli officials ‘ arrest warrants were harshly criticized by US President Joe Biden on Thursday, calling them “outrageous.”
Biden emphasised,” Whatever the ICC may imply, there is no similarity– nothing– between Israel and Hamas”. Following the court’s decision to issue imprisonment permits for previous defense secretary Yoav Gallant and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over alleged war crimes, this was done.
” We may always have with Israel against threats to its surveillance”, Biden more said.
In a split statement, the White House vehemently refuted the imprisonment demands. A representative from the National Security Council reiterated the US’s position that the ICC lacks jurisdiction while raising concerns about the prosecutor’s premature subpoena requests and legal issues.
Notably, the White House’s statement did not address Mohammed Deif, the head of Hamas ‘ military ,’s ICC warrant.
Under the incoming Trump administration, Mike Waltz, the new national security adviser, will support Israel and make plans to vigorate a strong reaction to alleged ICC and UN discrimination in January.
Waltz claimed on program X that the US government has refuted these claims and that the ICC has no trust.
Among the Democratic staff, some argued for Senate restrictions against the ICC, which consists of 124 member states required to carry out arrest warrants.
Both the United States and Israel, non-members of the ICC, have dismissed its jurisdiction.
The Hague judge issued the subpoenas for Netanyahu and Gallant, citing” crimes against humanity and war crimes committed from at least October 8 2023 until at least May 20 2024.”
Also, a warrant was issued for Deif, whom Jewish sources claim died in a Gaza attack in July, though Hamas has no verified this information.
