Space Coast High School in the Port St. John community in Cocoa, Fla., almost did n’t have a football season this year. I think it’s safe to say that motivation was quite low for the Vipers, who just won 14 total matches between 2018 and 2023. Previous head coach Jake Owens was hired again this year in an effort to move things around. As soon as he took the job, he realized something was n’t correct: the group’s technology was in pretty bad shape, according to the sports page On3.  ,

Families of the group members began looking for solutions as expression about the malfunctioning equipment spread. One reached out to the Baker &, Emily Mayfield Foundation. Created by NFL quarterback Baker Mayfield and his wife, Emily, the foundation’s mission statement says:” With a focus on endurance and a heart of aid, our nonprofit provides programs, fellowships, and philanthropic opportunities to help people handle life’s problems in order to be the best type of themselves”.  ,
When Mayfield learned that the team’s lack of quality products might prevent them from actually playing this year, he wanted to play. But he donated$ 17, 900. The payment truly increased confidence in the vault room, not to mention the team received the new equipment it needed, including appropriate helmets. The Vipers turned things around this year, winning a staggering 10 games and having the program’s best year ever, ending their one- and eight-year run in 2023.
But that’s not all. The team advanced to the playoffs and won the state final in SSAA Atlantic 1A for the first time last week. Coach Owens called it a “team efforts”, according to Florida Now. He continued,” I’m just so happy for our people and our mentors who have worked so hard and this Port St. John area, because they have wanted this for a very long time.”  ,  ,

Mayfield, who now plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was asked about the contribution that prompted the record-setting time for the Vipers. His response, as Sports Illustrated put it, was nothing short of” classy.” ” I mean, I got shivers thinking about it. It’s really a great story. I’ve got an amazing system, being able to provide back”, he told a writer. The Space Coast sports people, according to the same writer, form a friendship every Sunday over watching Mayfield and the Raiders play sports.  ,
A Texas high school group that needed the tools to perform their activities, received a donation from Baker Mayfield worth$ 17,900. They then won the state final.
