Matt Gaetz , withdrew his title from consideration , for attorney general on Thursday. It was an early defeat for President-elect Donald Trump that confirms the greatest danger to his mission is n’t Democrats, but creation Democrats.
Obviously it were , at least four GOP senators , strongly opposed to confirming Gaetz as counsel common: Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine, Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, and John Curtis of Utah. If all Democrat legislators had cast ballots against him, Gaetz would have been one ballot away from being confirmed.
The business media, along with a corps of Never Trump commentators on the proper,  , boasted , about the battle of Gaetz’s election, citing frequently discredited physical allegations against him as proof that he was unfit to lead the Justice Department. Always thinking that those claims have always been hysterically slim.  ,
However, as my partner Mollie Hemingway , laid out in these pages just, the whole campaign to slander Gaetz as a” child sex trafficker” was from the outset a gigantic psy-op and fraud. The Biden Justice Department conducted an 18-month research, but because the two main witnesses to the research had serious trust issues, Gaetz was not charged.
House Democrats were unable to launch an ethics investigation that relied on these same resources and their unsupported assertions about Gaetz. As part of an ongoing campaign to silence and solitude Gaetz, who had been one of the most successful tones in Congress criticizing the justice department’s corruption, they dragged their investigation out for more than a year.  ,  ,
And sure enough, a few established Republican senators seized on these allegations as justification for opposing Trump’s choice for Gaetz in the Democrats ‘ absurd ethics investigation.
This provides all you need to know about the current state of Trump in Washington. The National people gave him the power to end the deep state and clear up the government. Earth zero for that battle is the DOJ, which has been at the core of every effort to undermine, arrest, penniless, and reduce Trump from office since 2016. Trump should focus on fixing the Justice Department and FBI, which have become a hazard to the republican system of government and are now ineffective. In his second term, these two should be in charge.
That’s why he nominated Gaetz for the position of attorney general. Gaetz stood out in Congress never for being a hard-partying comedian, which is common enough in Washington, but as one of just a handful of GOP politicians who spoke out against the Russia collusion ruse, the political Jan. 6 trials, the lawfare against Trump, and the Hunter Biden laptop incident.
That’s the real reason for the Washington establishment’s opposition to Gaetz. The idea that it’s because lawmakers have scruples about Gaetz’s sex life, about salacious allegations that he’s a” child sex trafficker”, is just laughable. A bunch of swamp creatures in D. C. did n’t suddenly start caring about sexual morality overnight.
No, they opposed Gaetz because they fought tirelessly to undermine Trump’s agenda during his first term in office. The permanent uniparty in Washington fought Trump in every way possible, from border security to international relations. Democrats delayed and obstructing every step of the way as his political appointees scurried through the Senate. The top brass of the military routinely undermined, ignored, or lied to Trump about what they were doing. Never Trump Republican lawmakers never supported or obstructed him at any time.
Contrast that with how GOP lawmakers behaved with the Biden administration. Every Democratic senator voted in favor of every 21 cabinet members. Not one defected. Sen. Tommy Tuberville , pointed this out recently, saying,” Panic has set in at the DOJ, the intelligence community, and the entire D. C. swamp. They’re finding out, as Barack Obama once said, that elections have consequences”.
Well let’s hope they do. Trump will have to engage in and win in the kind of battles that he will need to win to reshape the deep state and implement his MAGA agenda. Establishment Republicans should be made aware that if they oppose his administration, they will be paying a high political price, unlike it was last time. If he does n’t, they’re going to be a greater obstacle to his second term than the Democrats.
