Far-left student protesters from the University of Minnesota staged a protest against Donald Trump’s win on the campaign trail for the second time in as many days.
They also spoke about the” Transgender Day of Remembrance”.
The UMN Kids for a Democrat Society, joined by the Minnesota Immigrant Rights Action Committee and Asians For Palestine, among other things protested Trump’s reported plans for “rolling up” freedom for transgender people, The Minnesota Daily reviews.
These “rollbacks” include a ban on transgender individuals from participating in sports clubs that match their individuality and requiring them to use restrooms in response.
According to Jess Braverman of Gender Justice, Trump may also outlaw the” changing]of] names and pronouns on standard educational files.
Trump also has spoken in favor of a law banning what he deemed the” sexual mutilation” of minors ( what others refer to as “gender-affirming care” ).
No other example of Trump’s first name being “hard on minority and LGBTQ+ areas” were provided by the UMN activists, and a SDS speaker spoke about the death of a transgender friend in honor of Transgender Day of Remembrance.
” Far too many transgender lives are lost each time,” the speech said”. Suicide is far too popular among transgender persons, and transgender people are also more prevalent.
Other worries were Trump’s possible implementation of Project 2025 ( which” could make life much harder for many Americans” ), and his” past scandals and controversy.”
The SDS’s Freyja Wolfe” emphasized the value]of] the voices of a student body” (her own referred to Trump as a” transphobic, homophobic, classist, racist asshole” ), and told the crowd that, despite Trump’s victory, they” have power ]… ] specifically on this campus.”
Wolfe had been arrested earlier in the year during an anti-Israel opposition and told CBS News that, even though she used the phrase” murder” with regards to Israel’s actions, she did n’t” really fully comprehend “its definition.
” ]B ] ut I have seen a lot of experts call it that,” she said.
SDS part Isaac Stets said the UMN anti-Trump demonstrations” are never ending whenever immediately.”
” We’re going to be putting effort into keeping our presence for the winter,” Stets said”. We’re very committed to keeping the energy flowing wherever possible while developing new strategies to accomplish that, and I know that’s a problem with a lot of organizing.
