Pete Hegseth, President Donald Trump‘s candidate for defense minister, has received criticism for his views on women serving in battle jobs, according to Tammy Duckworth, a US legislator and veteran of the US.
On Sunday, Duckworth, a Democrat from Illinois and senior of the Korean War, appeared on CBS News’ Face the Nation. She claimed that Hegseth, a veteran of the military and former Fox News host, was unfit for the place due to his views on women in the military.

” Mr Hegseth is not qualified for the position because he does n’t understand, apparently, even after having served, that women are vitally important to an effective military”, Duckworth said.
She stressed the important role of women in the army, particularly amid present selection problems.
If we were to take all those people out and say you could n’t enter fight, we would have a serious personnel problems in the military, she continued. Due to the recruiting difficulties we are currently facing, we would be in for a long period of time.
Harrison also criticised Hegseth’s lower level during his company, saying,” He was a pretty low-ranking man in the military, and he never had a command place… He was a battalion chief, I think, once or twice, but he never even commanded a business. This gentleman is utterly unqualified for the position.
After joining the first people to fly combat operations during the Iraq War, Duckworth became one of the first female pilot. On the hand, Hegseth retired as a key.
Hegseth previously claimed on a radio that women serving in battle do not gain the military, claiming that” problem in combat means casualties are worse because everything about men and women serving up complicates the situation.” I’m straight up just saying that we should not have women in combat roles — it has n’t made us more effective, has n’t made us more lethal, and has made fighting more complicated”.
Hegseth has faced disputes, including a prior sexual abuse incident, which he settled in a legal case while denying any wrong, and promises of a nationalist tattoo on his bicep.
