A Chinese court ruled that a business must pay compensation to a previous worker who had been fired for working as a sleep companion. The man, identified as Zhang, worked at a chemistry firm in Taixing, Jiangsu state. After working late the night before, he was discovered napping at his table.
Zhang had 20 years of experience working for the business.

After surveillance footage showed him sleeping at his desk following a work-related trip that lasted until midnight the following evening, the company fired him.
Zhang acknowledged his guilt with his trademark when he acknowledged it a fortnight later in evidence from the HR department stating that he had been” caught sleeping at work due to exhaustion.” When questioned about the length of his sleep, Zhang responded that it was” About an hour or so.”
The company, after consulting with the employment union, proceeded with official dismissal, citing significant policy violations.
The departure see read:” Comrade Zhang, you joined the company in 2004 and signed an open-ended work commitment. However, your attitude of sleeping on the job is a serious violation of the company’s zero-tolerance control legislation. Therefore, with the government’s assent, the business has decided to terminate your employment, ending all labour relationships between you and the business”.
Zhang sued the company, arguing that the sentence was too terrible. The judge agreed, stating that sleeping on the job did not harm the business. The court ordered the company to pay Zhang 350, 000 yuan ( Rs 40.78 lakh ), as reported by the South China morning Post. The court acknowledged the right of employers to terminate deals if they violate rules, but it stressed the need for serious harm to be done to support these steps. According to Judge Ju Qi of the Taixing People’s Court,” Sleeping on the job was a first-time offence and did not seriously damage the company.”
In China, there is a controversy surrounding this case on social media. Zhang’s dismissal by the company is viewed as very unpleasant, while others think he was mistreated at work. ” Napping at work is really bad, but the agency’s steps were very severe. If small mistakes can lead to expulsion, it makes firing employees much too easy”, said one consumer. Others responded admiringly,” What kind of success is this?
