Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-Okla. ) blocked the promotion last week of Lt. Gen. Christopher Donahue, a three-star general who was one of the Biden-Harris administration’s top military leaders responsible for overseeing the disastrous Afghanistan withdrawal in 2021.
According to Task and Purpose, Donahue was nominated earlier this month by President Joe Biden to get promoted to a four-star standard and direct U. S. Army Europe-Africa. Donahue was one of over 900 military personnel listed in a list of suggested agent deals that the Senate Armed Services Committee advanced, according to Task and Purpose. But, Donahue’s campaign was never confirmed during the last Senate vote on Thursday.
According to NBC News, Donahue was the last U. S. company representative to board the next military planes to leave Afghanistan during the Biden-Harris government’s removal. Donahue also played a role in the withdrawal of American Embassy employees, military personnel, and Afghans from Kabul while serving as the captain of the 82nd Airborne Division at the time.
The Washinton Post confirmed that Donahue’s campaign was blocked by Mullin, who served in the House of Representatives during the Biden-Harris government’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan.

According to The Daily Wire, Mullin’s determination to stop Donahue’s development comes as President-elect Donald Trump has pledged to fire all of the top military leaders who participated in the Afghanistan drawback under the Biden-Harris administration. Following the deaths of 13 American military personnel and the seized of billions of dollars of British military equipment by the Taliban during the withdrawal process, Trump promised to fire the military officials.
The Biden-Harris management did not fire any of the older military figures accountable for the removal programs, in contrast to Trump’s plan to do so.
In a statement to The Washington Post, James Adams, a Pentagon official, noted Donahue’s requirements for the advertising to a four-star standard.
According to Adams,” His visit comes at a time when Europe is at a crucial point.” We demand that all of our very qualified contenders be confirmed by the Senate. Our military preparation is undermined by our contenders.
A second senator is able to prevent the confirmation of military offers, according to The Daily Wire, despite the Democratic Party’s present majority in the U.S. Senate. Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala. ) previously blocked hundreds of military promotions from 2022 to 2023 as a form of protest against the Biden-Harris administration’s Pentagon policy that pays for military members to travel to other states for abortions.
