According to tradition, during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln was the first senator to give a turkey mercy.
Historical accounts indicate Tad Lincoln, the president’s child, urged his parents to give the animal from being slaughtered for a Christmas dinner in 1863, per an 1865 statement by White House reporter Noah Brooks. The story endures despite the reports that the account may become overstated.  ,
John F. Kennedy
Decades after Lincoln’s reported clemency, people gave turkeys as presents to the White House, and Harry Truman was the first to open the oval business to the National Turkey Federation in 1947. Up until John F. Kennedy’s presidency in the 1960s, there is no known instance of a leader pardoning a thailand from the team.
