Following the 2024 presidential election, Republican-led regions are pushing to separate from Democrat-led districts in deep blue state to form separate state.
According to The New York Post, some traditional residents in Democratic-led states have moved to Republican-led states with lower taxes and fewer federal regulations, but another residents in blue states are starting to wonder if they can be and seek independence from blue states.
In the 2024 election, seven remote districts voted to support a ballot initiative that would have addressed the topic of independence in Illinois, according to NBC Chicago. The board of the county should communicate with the boards of different counties in Illinois, besides Cook County, regarding the possibility of separating from Cook County to form a new condition and to request ratification of the Union as a result, according to the outlet.
Explaining why the seven counties voted to consider the idea of secession from Illinois, Phil Gioja, an Iroquois County resident, told The Wall Street Journal,” There’s a lot of people in Chicago, and I think that they make a lot of decisions that affect people downstate”. Gioja added,” It’s simply sending a text that,’ Hey, you know, there’s people that would like to become part of the conversation, and generally are n’t.'”

Iroquois County residents like Gioja want more representation in a position where just Chicago voters are in control. In Iroquois County, about 73 percent of voters voted in favor of considering secede.
The Democratic-led state’s work, led by G. H. Merritt, said the best chance for secession could be presented by the state’s financial challenges.
When Illinois was about to hit the financial rock, as Merritt put it,” we always believed that our best chance to discuss our way out of it was when we were at that point,” Merritt said.
Paul Preston, chairman of the New California State action, even told The Wall Street Journal that a activity to include regions outside of San Francisco, Sacramento, Los Angeles, and Oakland separate from the California has been generating help. Preston told the shop,” I’m so whacking excited”. Additionally, Preston asserted that California has” seen from the Union now” and is a “one-party communist condition.”
The state coalitions would need the consent of state legislature to get independent states, according to The New York Post, despite red states considering independence from blue states and gaining speed.
