Politicians in New York state have made hints that the incoming Trump administration might use strange strategies, including lowering federal taxes and relocating to Canada.
As state Liberals only have weeks to fight President-elect Donald Trump before he takes office, state senator Liz Krueger, a well-known Democrat from New York City, suggested the thoughts.
Krueger believes like wondering is warranted.
” It’s not unreasonable , to think outside of the box” , , Krueger told Politico.
While Krueger’s transformation into a French state may have a fairytale closing, the condition withholding federal taxes is only marginally more likely. If Trump decides to send less federal funding to New York, as the state senator has suggested if some cities do n’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities, he made an inclination toward it.
Trump’s “border czar”, former ICE Director Tom Homan, has put Trump’s previous threat into more concrete terms, saying he will block federal funding for states that do n’t cooperate.
” That’s going to happen. I guarantee you”, Homan said.
New York’s$ 85 billion gap would be left in if it received all of the federal funding. According to Krueger, they may offset those funds by sending in the hundreds of billions of dollars in tax money.
” We’re talking a lot , of money”, Krueger said. We’re talking about money that the feds wo n’t be able to replace, the statement goes.
Prior to Trump taking office of the White House, Krueger had suggested that New York does ally with Canada. More precisely, she proposed leaving with Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Vermont.
” But that’s why I thought,’ Oh, why do I have to leave this country? I love this country, and if Trump wins a second word, it’s not really my sin or people in New York.’ So, I figured I would suggest to Canada that they instead of allowing us to be the south state, a new province of Canada, instead of us all trying to cross the border illegally without them realizing it.
She defended the claim, saying that “almost all of the American elected officials in these states are intensifying Democrats,” and that they “would suit very well with the democratic theory of at least the majority of them.

Forty-three percent of voters in New York voted for Trump in the 2024 election, while the other three says all garnered at least 30 % of the vote for the president-elect.
Krueger said she “got up some unauthorised reactions” and that the plan is “probably tradable” in the French capital of Ottawa.
