This is an important conversation, but I’ve decided to never put it behind the wall and make it all-access.  ,
Regular readers of my Morning Briefing are well aware of my displeasure with the president-elect’s nomination of Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-Ore. ) to be the next Secretary of Labor.  ,

Fans of Donald Trump for a while know that there are some tiebreaker,” think outside the box” moments in the mix. Nevertheless, this choice resembles Democratic National Committee thinking a little too much. Chavez-DeRemer is a walking red symbol who never even really have made it onto a small checklist for consideration, allow only gotten the candidacy. In this paragraph, I outlined my disagreements with her. Catherine also wrote about her.  ,
Kira is always a great host, but I wanted to talk to her about this because Chavez-DeRemer supports the sneaky Professional Act, which would be a total disaster for independent companies like us. Kira has been dealing with this nonsense for a while because California Assembly Bill 5 ( AB5 ) is the source of the PRO Act.  ,
Here’s some background to explain why Trump and his transition team made the terrible option. This is from The Wall Street Journal:
At a Pennsylvania campaign march this summer, JD Vance declared,” President Trump and I are going to struggle for the motorists.” Also, not so much. By tapping Oregon Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer as his Work minister, Mr. Trump has sold out the drivers to a Teamsters director who did n’t embrace him for President.
The American Trucking Associations made a statement on Monday, pointing out that Ms. Chavez-DeRemer’s “anti-trucking plans undermine our vital labor, threaten independent drivers ‘ right to choose their own career paths, and restrict the efficiency of the supply chain.
The group is referring to Ms. Chavez-DeRemer’s support for the anti-worker Pro Act, which redefines the status of independent contractors as employees with less sway and autonomy.

Ok, we have our first real fight of populists vs. establishment! I am officially supporting President Trump’s pick of Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer (R-OR ) for Labor Secretary. All Murdoch media outlets, Chamber of Commerce, Never Trumpers and establishment Republicans are against her.

I do n’t consider myself an establishment Republican or a Never-Trumper, as you all probably know.  ,
You’re starting to get the idea. Again, it is always fun having Kira on the show, even when we have to be serious for an entire episode. We had planned to continue this for between 25 and 30 minutes, but we were so impressed that we decided to stick with 45.  ,
It’s worth it. Even when Kira and I are dealing with something extremely serious, we do n’t go all “gloomy and doom” about it.  ,
Enjoy!
