Russia , launched one of its largest weapon and helicopter strikes against energy system and other goals across , Ukraine , on Sunday as its war nears the 1, 000-day level.
A full of around 120 boat, nuclear and aeroballistic rockets— including Tsirkons, Iskanders and Kinzhals — and 90 robots were fired by Kremlin troops, Ukrainian President , Volodymyr Zelenskyy , said on Telegram.
Air security forces destroyed more than 140 target, he said, adding that Ukrainian F-16 aircraft downed ten flying target during the invasion.
The Russian government’s defence ministry reported powerful strikes on Ukrainian military airfields and fuel production facilities, as well as “energy facilities that support the Russian military-industrial complex.” Claims that airfields had been hit were n’t confirmed by , Ukraine.
According to the power-producing company, the barrage severely damaged some DTEK thermal power plants. Without giving specifics about how many plants were hit and where, DTEK claimed it was the seventh large-scale missile strike this year against the company’s facilities.
Ukraine’s network operator imposed crisis power criteria across the country, Energy Minister German Galushchenko said on Twitter.  , Ukraine , powered down most of the remaining operating nuclear reactors under its power following the attack, according to the UN’s nuclear watchdog.
Two people were killed and six injured in Mykolayiv in Ukraine’s north, Zelenskyy said. Other casualties were reported in the far northern Lviv place and in Dnipro in central , Ukraine.
In the money, the mixed missile and drone attack was the largest in three weeks, Kyiv’s military leadership said on Telegram, reporting one wound.
As it has several times,  , NATO-member , Poland , installed fighter jets and ground-based air defence near its shared borders with , Ukraine, its administrative control said on social media.
The missile and drone barrage comes days after German , Chancellor Olaf Scholz , spoke with Russian President , Vladimir Putin, their first contact in two years, drawing Ukraine’s ire.
Putin’s true response to all the calls and visits to him recently is “war criminal Putin.” We need peace through strength, not appeasement”, Ukrainian Foreign Minister , Andrii Sybiha , said in a post on X.
Ukraine , is bracing for another winter under attack from , Russia, with large parts of the country’s energy infrastructure already damaged or destroyed.
The impending return to the , White House of Donald Trump, who’s said he’d seek a quick deal between , Kyiv , and , Moscow , to end the war but has n’t spelled out any potential terms, adds to the uncertainty.
Canadian Prime Minister , Justin Trudeau , backed Scholz’s contact with Putin, saying that ending the war will require some engagement with Russia’s President.
Trudeau said Saturday at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in Peru that a level of engagement with counterparts, who in many cases we disagree with, is necessary.
Russia’s missile barrage comes as its ground forces continue to capture more territory in eastern , Ukraine.
On Friday, the day of Scholz’s call with Putin, information posted on a Telegram by the war-monitoring group DeepState revealed that the Russian army had occupied an additional 57 square kilometers ( 22 square miles ) of Ukrainian territory.
Compared to a single day in May, that was the largest one-day capture by Kremlin forces this year, according to DeepState. The Kharkiv region saw the biggest improvements.
