Russia on Wednesday revoked the approval of two editors associated with the European ARD journalist and ordered them to leave the country in what is seen as a tit-for-tat proceed against the German federal “targeting two Russian editors” from Russia’s state TV.
Ministry’s spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told a lecture in Moscow that it may concern approval to another ARD personnel if German government allow journalists from Russia’s Channel One to operate in Berlin.
European foreign ministry director Christian Wagner, but, dismissed the state that the federal government had shut Channel One’s business, as the Russian journalist has claimed.
” The federal government has no closed the business of this presenter,” Wagner told a news conference, according to news agency AP.
” Russian journalists may report easily and unhindered in Germany. “
” I can just conclude that this has to do with issues of property position,” but those are not dealt with by federal government in Germany and state regulators make their decisions independently, Wagner added.
Channel One has been under European Union restrictions since December 2022 as conflicts inflated between Moscow and the West over Russia’s military action in Ukraine.
The EU sanctions prevent it from broadcasting in Europe but do n’t affect the presence of staff who work for it in Berlin.
Responding to Moscow’s walk, the German foreign government condemned the eviction by Moscow of two reporters.
” The eviction of ARD people by Russia is undesirable,” the foreign ministry said in a post on social media app X, adding that the Russian journalists had been content to “immigration choices”, which they could appeal.
