The” Reagan” biopic, in which Dennis Quaid and Penelope Ann Miller play President Ronald Reagan and First Lady Nancy Reagan, has been one of the most talked-about films of the year. The movie had been in development for well over ten years before it was eventually released on August 30.  ,

Quaid was featured in numerous television programs to promote the film, including the Republican National Convention. He went on several television shows to discuss his loyalty and how Reagan had always been his favorite president, and he even ended up speaking at rallies for President Donald Trump just before the vote. A Hollywood A-lister who seems to like his state, especially when some celebrities prefer to travel abroad and criticize the country, has been a bit upsetting.  ,
However, there is a missing element in this film. More specifically, opinions from film critics and those who have seen the film do n’t really add up. I’m assuming this is because progressives never seem to see anything as being offensive against their political beliefs, even if it’s just for enjoyment.  ,
The best illustration of this is perhaps the movie review web Rotten Tomatoes. Rotten Tomatoes leans to the left, which is already known. But the site offers a” Tomatometer” for movies, which is an aggregate score of professional film critics ‘ reviews, and a” Popcornmeter” score, which represents reviews left by actual movie audiences. According to the Washington Times report from September,” Reagan” had the most audience-to-criticism difference in Rotten Tomatoes ‘ history. As I write this, Rotten Tomatoes shows” Reagan” as having a 98 % favorable rating from audiences, and just an 18 % perfect favorable rating from critics.

The founder of the movie review website Worth It Or Woke?, James Carrick, told Fox News that he had observed that the more biased the critics ‘ testimonials are toward “leftist messages and components” in movies the more the gap between the audience and the critics.  ,  ,
The common consensus from critics, according to Rotten Tomatoes, is that” While’ Reagan ‘ the film certainly admires Reagan the guy, its sweet and bright rendering of history flattens the 40th U. S. President into caricature”. Some tossed around the phrase “hagiography”.  , Here are a few examples from some of those opinions:  ,
Bilge Ebiri, the critic for New York Magazine and Vulture said,” Without any lifelike characters, it’s hard to find oneself caring, and thus, Reagan’s dedication to such narrow themes proves limiting” . ,
Sean Burns of North Shore Movies called it a” children’s film for the adult diaper set” . ,
It’s a thin line between self-parody and comedy, according to The Ringer’s Adam Nayman, and more advanced managers than McNamara have tripped over it. Reagan looks a little like a crazy Saturday Night Live picture, or even a documentary movie à la Walk Hard” . ,

Despite these types of opinions, the film did really well at the field office,  , grossing$ 30.1 million, spending time in the top five, and achieving numerous other political movies. And it’s doing perhaps better with home people. The film was made available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and online websites on November 19, and it’s still breaking data.  ,
Upon its release, it” topped Amazon’s Best Dealers in Movies &, Television and Best Sellers in Blu-ray figures over the weekend, leapfrogging previous’ Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse,’ ‘ Despicable Me 4′ and’ The Lord of the Rings: The Movement Picture Trilogy ‘ set”, according to a press release. Currently, on Thanksgiving Day, it’s holding steady at the number four spot on Amazon’s Best Sellers in Movies &, TV list, beating out movies from several popular franchises.
For what it’s worth, not everyone in Hollywood hated the film. The result is a political biopic with the heartbeat of a faith-based drama, according to Nathaniel Bell, who reviews movies for LA Weekly and the Village Voice. According to him, “it may make liberals and conservatives long for the days when the free world’s leader could make a joke that would make even his political opponents smile.”  ,

But Bell is definitely in the minority. I do n’t know how many people will go to see or purchase a movie, unless the critics are letting their political bias shine and not actually giving a verdict. Personally, I have n’t seen” Reagan” yet myself, but I’ve heard good things from friends, and it’s on my list for viewing this holiday season. What did you think of it, please?
