The International Society for Krishna Consciousness ( ISKCON), including its former members Chinmoy Krishna Das, were ordered by Bangladesh’s financial authorities to freeze their accounts for 30 days on Friday.
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit ( BFIU) issued the directives on Thursday, suspending all transactions for these accounts during this period, Prothom Alo reported.
The BFIU has also instructed lenders to offer comprehensive account-related details, including updated purchase information of companies owned by the 17 people, within three working days, the statement added.
In connection with a rebellion case, Chinmoy Krishna Das, who recently spoke for ISKCON in Bangladesh, was detained on Monday at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. A yellow flag was reportedly hoisted above the Bangladeshi national flag at a rally held on October 25 in Chattogram, according to the allegations.
Das was detained on Tuesday during a reading in a Chattogram judge, and he was later released from jail. Numerous organizations have demanded his immediate transfer as a result of his incarceration.
The insurrection case against Das and 18 others was filed on October 30 in Chittagong. They were accused of undermining regional characters and provoking unrest.
