Democrats spent Thanksgiving reflecting on what went wrong after Donald Trump‘s overwhelming defeat, with some admitting that President Biden’s management of the border crisis alienated citizens and gave Republicans control of the White House, according to the New York Post.
Party insiders have privately acknowledged that vice president Kamala Harris ‘ battle suffered as a result of their failure to address issues about illegal immigration.
Social mismanagement
A Democratic senator acknowledged the group’s position in their vote defeat, saying,” We destroyed ourselves on the immigration issue in ways that were totally predictable and manageable.” We completely mismanaged that, including our Democrat conference in this instance. That’s social malpractice”, they added.
Eric Adams ‘ warnings about the effects of a porous borders on places and working-class voters were ignored, according to a cause close to the mayor of New York City. ” For two years, ]he ] warned, and they did not listen”.
One House Democrat claimed that the party needed to make its point clearer in order to get support from voters by saying,” We need to say that murder and illegal immigration are awful.”
How did Biden’s plans fail?
Joe Biden‘s border policies were widely held to be responsible for the Democrats ‘ fight. These included delaying the construction of Trump’s boundary wall, ending the” Live in Mexico” scheme, and pausing persecution.
” Why would you do that? Whom do you intend to “play”? another Democratic lawmaker told The Hill, voicing distress and disappointment over Biden’s policies.
In January 2023, Eric Adams had warned Biden’s plan director, Julie Chavez Rodriguez, that working-class voters were upset about the growing number of low-skilled asylum applicants. Instead of heeding the warning, Chavez dismissed Adams, accusing him of using Republican talking details.
” Then Democrats are paying the price”, an official adjacent to Adams said.
Border problems
Over 302, 000 bridges were made in one quarter, which was a record-breaking quarter for the border problems. He was accused of hiding the issue by passing people through constitutional entry points, according to critics.
More than 85 % of illegal border crossings were released into the US, up from 71 % in October, according to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
Democrats were left vulnerable on a topic that was important to voters because of these plans, which fueled Democrat attacks.
What led to Trump’s win?
Trump’s plan focused on immigration and violence. He made the commitment to deporting thieves and proposed financial reforms that would appeal to citizens from the working class, such as eliminating overtime pay and ideas.
His information gained significant assistance among voters in the Hispanic-dominated South Texas and South Florida. According to exit polls, Trump grew in popularity among black people in key swing state and won the majority of Hispanic male citizens.
Immigration, alongside prices and violence, ranked among voters ‘ top concerns, helping Trump reclaim the president.
