A Connecticut man firing over 200 shells at homes and authorities in a Florida property advanced was killed by a coroner’s rifle Thursday, ending a five-hour conflict. No one else was injured, as reported by Fox News.
Joseph DiFusco, 56, died after being shot by a Volusia County Sheriff’s Office rifle. The incident unfolded at the Kingston Shores flats near Ormond-by-the-Sea.
Representatives responded to DiFusco’s record of having suicidal thoughts around 4 am, which set off the altercation. He refused health travel. Delegates called back two hours later after DiFusco reportedly began shooting at officers and local residents.
Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood said,” Perhaps fired over 200 sessions. ]You was ] hear guns whizzing over our minds, and we were 100 feet back”.
According to Chitwood, the complex has been visited three days by representatives. He added that DiFusco, a” snowbird” —someone who migrates to warmer climates during winter—may have used firearms brought from out of state and refused to negotiate. ” He was not going to discuss. Every day we may try to negotiate, he would blaze on us. ] He] turned off his phone. He was armed to the teeth”, Chitwood said.
DiFusco’s home contacted regulators prior to the incident, expressing concern for their health. ” They were so scared of him, they were sleeping in a car”, Chitwood said. He even mentioned that DiFusco had apparently stopped taking his medication and had been sleeping for days.
Companions were evacuated during the conflict. Officials found that DiFusco had used at least three firearms to barricade himself inside his hire home. The scene’s images reveal shot holes engulfing the building’s exterior.
