Security forces reportedly pushed a rebel off a tall load of shipping containers during a presentation urging the transfer of former prime minister Imran Khan.
The remarkable incident, which was captured on video, quickly gained popularity on social media, igniting anger and raising questions about how Pakistani demonstrators are treated.
As military officers approached, the rebel was seen praying on top of a box. Moments later, the gentleman was pushed out of the box and spotted clinging to its border before falling roughly 25 feet to the ground.
The incident, according to a report from the BBC, reportedly took place at the crossroads of Jinnah and Ataturk Avenues, the protests ‘ center. The man’s condition is still unidentified.
Imran Khan’s incarceration, who has been facing corruption charges since August 2023, sparked the protests. Hundreds of his followers, some traveling from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, marched to Islamabad to desire his release. Among them was Khan’s family, Bushra Bibi, who led the show alongside Ali Amin Gandapur, deputy minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
However, the marches rapidly descended into chaos. Over 100 safety personnel were hurt in clashes that the government reported, including four armed rangers and two police officers. Shehbaz Sharif, the prime minister, claimed that protesters allegedly rammed into military forces.
The assault was swift and serious, with roughly 1, 000 activists arrested. Security forces employed tear gas, stick costs, and roadblocks to evacuate crowds, successfully quelling the turmoil. The intensity of the response led to the protest’s premature collapse, dealing a significant blow to Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf ( PTI ) party.
