. She said that Musk’s appearance contradicts the organisation’s principles. It simply felt like it sounded so incompatible with the Royal Society’s core beliefs. And I really did n’t want anything to do with it.
Bishop cited the Royal Society’s code of conduct for polite behavior among fellow members. I told them,” I’m not going to be polite and nice to Elon Musk,” I said. I’m afraid, so I ca n’t keep to the code of conduct”, she explained.
Bishop acknowledged the resignation’s possible minimal impact in a blog post, saying it provided her with personal support. She complained about collaborating with Musk, calling him” an individual who appears to be modeling himself on a Bond villain” and” a man who will use his immense wealth and power to harm scientists who disagree with him.”
Musk’s contributions to the area and energy car sectors earned him a Royal Society brother in 2018. Last year, he threatened legal action against researchers who reported increased hate speech on X ( formerly Twitter ) after his acquisition.
In August, Royal Society colleagues voiced concern over Musk’s remarks about UK turmoil. Downing Street even criticised Musk’s declaration,” legal war is inevitable”, regarding protests in Liverpool. The Royal Society, however, found Musk had n’t violated its code of conduct.
Bishop and other researchers continued to gather information of carry that they thought was incompatible with the code of conduct. This included Musk’s comments about Anthony Fauci, vaccination conspiracy theories, and weather problems.
