President Joe Biden visited Angola on Tuesday, a vacation that comes as his White House is continuing to face discussion over its commitments to Africa.
Biden’s return approvals are now at their lowest point among any incoming contemporary president, and he has declined to say whether he will carry a closing press conference before taking office.
With only a month to go in office, the president has largely avoided the public eye, and with that being said, Vice President Kamala Harris lost to President-elect Donald Trump. There are still doubts as to whether Biden is rescue his own deteriorating legacy.
BIDEN Handling OF Described DOCUMENTS LOOMS OVER PRESIDENTIAL Change
Biden promised to visit Africa before leaving office in 2023, but he repeatedly delayed the trip over the course of the time. Simply after returning to Africa, the president granted a pardon to his son Hunter, despite promising to do so for the past few months.
Biden has consistently ignored the flow of inquiries about his brother since leaving for Africa, despite responding to one topic from reporters on Tuesday regarding the North Vietnamese president’s surprise declaration of martial law the night before.
Biden made an appearance on Tuesday with Angolan President Joao Lourenco at the Presidential Palace in Luanda, Angola, where he made the claim that he was “very proud” of being the first sitting U.S. president to visit the country. He also revealed that more than$ 1 billion in new humanitarian aid will be provided for Africans who have been displaced by drought and food insecurity.
The State Department and the United States Agency for International Development contribute almost$ 823 million to that overall, along with almost$ 186 million.
” The United States is all in on Africa”, he continued. ” The United States is expanding our marriage all over Africa, from aid to aid, investment to business, and moving from visitors to partners,” said the president.” We know African leaders and citizens are seeking more than just purchase.
Top management officials said the president and his team held further meetings with Lourenco’s government, with a special emphasis on the Lobito Corridor, the earliest transcontinental railroad in Africa, and America’s largest rail investment outside of the continental U.S.

One Biden national told writers,” President Biden started out talking about how this is a truly transformed relationship over the last decades, but especially the next three years. When you consider this, President Biden has described slavery as the “original sin of the United States,” followed by the Cold War, during which time we were primarily on opposing sides. But since President Lourenco took workplace, and President Biden has taken office four years ago, it has truly developed into a strong partnership and a very comfortable one.
The African continent is emerging as a theatre in America’s proxy-economic conflict with China, with both the second Trump administration and Trump working to make up for lost time by battling Beijing’s Belt and Road Initiative.
However, a senior administration official told investigators that neither China nor the hopes for U.S. investments in Africa during Trump’s upcoming term in office were discussed during Biden’s discussions with Lourenco on Tuesday.
The senator did acknowledge during his diplomatic scuffle with Lourenco that American investments in Angola and other African countries were” not unselfish.”

Later that day, Biden made a visit to the National Museum of Slavery, where he received a briefing from the administrators about a number of exhibits displaying trans-Atlantic slave trade treasures.
The leader once more made a comment about how enslavement has historically bound West Africa and the United States.
” We’re gathered in a solemn place because, to thoroughly consider how much our two countries have come in our compassion, we have to consider how we began”, the senator told the audience. The serious and meaningful bond that will always unite Africa and the United States is at the center of our citizens. We are in memory of the robbed children, babies, and men who were chained up and subjected to unimaginable cruelty.
” I’ve learned that while story may remain hidden, it cannot and should not be erased. It should be faced”, he continued. ” It’s our duty to confront our past, the good, the bad, and the ugly, the complete reality. That’s what wonderful countries do”.
