The proposed Department of Government Performance may be led by Vivek Ramaswamy and Elon Musk, who both expressed a desire to end the semi-annual daylight saving time calendar change. There is just one concern: That electricity belongs to Congress.
Donald Trump Jr., among other social numbers, wrote a number of comments on the blog in support of making daylight saving time a permanent thing. The Uniform Time Act, which established daylight saving time, was passed by Congress in 1966, and it was tasked with enforcing it.
People can contact the department via a specific email address if they want to document their city for not following daylight saving time. State have the right to opt to observe daylight saving time, but says are not.
Only two says, Arizona and Hawaii, free themselves from observing daylight saving time.
There have been numerous legislative work, most notably the Sunshine Protection Act, to change federal regulation and make daylight saving time the accepted time in all 50 state.
The bill, first proposed by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL ) in 2021, has supporters on both sides of the aisle. Political co-sponsor of the act, Sen. Edward J. Markey (D-MA ) has said,” Americans want more light in the windy, winter months, and Congress you give that to them”.
The bill’s supporters argue that the wintertime gets dark very beginning, which causes seasonal depression and visibility during rush hour traffic, which can be dangerous for commuters home from work.
Opponents of the bill contend that early morning students would have less presence, which could be risky, and that such a change might have an effect on people’s daily rhythms.
The House of Representatives has not yet voted on the Sunshine Protection Act, but the Senate passed it with unequivocal acceptance. Speaker of the House Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA ) has the power to bring it to a vote.

If Musk and Ramaswamy’s program to stop the semi-annual clock change involves a DOGE extra-congressional effort or if they intend to merely pressure Johnson to get the bill passed on the House floor, Johnson is still undetermined.
DOGE is getting its own House Oversight subcommittee, headed by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA ), and there will also be a DOGE House caucus launched by Reps. Pete Sessions (R-TX ) and Aaron Bean (R-FL ), where Representatives will vote in line with the advisory panel’s initiatives. Rep. Jared Moskowitz announced that he would be the first Democrat to meet the conference on Tuesday.
