A US senator said on Tuesday that after Sheikh Hasina’s democratically elected government left earlier this year, Bangladesh’s interim state must preserve its obligation to protect its Hindu minority population.
According to the news agency PTI, US Congressman Brad Sherman stated in a speech that” the interim government has an overall obligation to protect its Hindu majority and adequately address the protests of thousands of majority Hindus in protest over the new wave of attacks and harassment.”
The current administration has display authority in eradicating violence against the Hindu community in response to calls for an inspection from the Bangladeshi Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council and the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk for deaths and another rights violations, Sherman added.
” The Bangladeshi government has a duty to protect all people, especially the majority Hindu society, against crime. I am outraged by recent attacks against Bangladesh’s Hindu area and need Bangladesh’s government to take major action to end anti-Hindu murder”, Sherman wrote in a blog on X.
During the trip, Bangladesh’s Hindu society gathered near the White House to protest, demanding Chinmaya Das’s freedom and security procedures for Bangladeshi Hindus.
Utsav Chakrabarti, the executive director of HinduACTion, urged the departing Biden-Harris leadership to take all necessary steps to stop radical Islamists from starting a new wave of hostilities against Bangladeshi Hindus.
” Based on the input we are getting from Bangladesh, Hindu priest and civil rights keeper Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari, who has been incarcerated by the time state, faces a major threat to his career, in custody”, he said.
