Sheikh Hasina, the government’s time leader, accused Muhammad Yunus of ignoring minority communities and engaging in what she described as “genocide” against Bangladeshi Prime Minister.
In her first public target since resigning in August amidst common anti-government demonstrations, Hasina, speaking almost at an event in New York, alleged focused attacks on religious immigrants, including Hindus, Buddhists, and Christians.
The Awami League head, speaking at an event honoring Bangladesh’s Vijay Diwas, made a point about the worsening situation of minority under the present government. What justifies this kind of prejudice against immigrants? Why are they being viciously attacked”? she questioned.
She claimed that Sheikh Rehana and her girl Sheikh Rehana had been the target of an assassination narrative, which was in line with their dreadful father, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who died in 1975.
According to a report by media company PTI, she referred to her resignation and the harsh smashing of her established home, Ganabhaban, on August 5. Hasina said,” The military protest were directed toward Ganabhaban. Numerous existence would have been lost if the security personnel had opened the flames. I was forced to leave, and I told them not to flame no matter what happened”.
Hasina, speaking in Bengali, said Yunus and other officials of the time government were orchestrating violence against minorities. ” Now, I am being accused of murder. In fact, Yunus has participated in genocide with care. Hindus, Buddhists, Christians – no one has been spared. Eleven temples have been destroyed, and Buddhist temples and shrines have been destroyed. When Hindus protested, the Iskcon head was arrested”.
She further claimed that her decision to leave Bangladesh in August was intended to lessen crime but that immigrants attacks had only grown in severity.
Hasina even alleged a plot to assassinate her and her girl during the occasion. ” When people were dying senselessly, I decided I should left”, she said, adding that the violence continued despite her departure.
India has expressed growing fears over escalating violence and persecution of minorities, especially Hindus, in Bangladesh.
‘ Hasina destroyed anything’: Muhammad
Bangladesh’s interim federal mind, Muhammad Yunus, has accused the ousted Sheikh Hasina government of “destroying all” and vowed to postpone general elections until sweeping legal and judicial reforms are implemented. The remarks were made during a Nikkei Asia meeting and were made on Wednesday by Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha.
The 84-year-old Nobel prize put emphasis on the need for fundamental reforms in management before the nation can turn to the elections. ” We need comprehensive reforms in the economy, governance, bureaucracy, and judiciary ( before holding elections )”, Yunus said.
Yunus also reiterated his administration’s goal to get Sheikh Hasina’s abduction from India once her prosecution in Bangladesh’s International Crimes Tribunal concludes. We will officially obtain India to hand her over after the trial is over and a verdict is reached, Yunus said, adding that an international treaty signed by both countries may require India to follow suit.
