President-elect Donald Trump‘s labour minister choice is drawing compliment from unexpected locations — and condemnation from some of the government’s allies.
ELECTED TO SERVE NEXT YEAR: THE HOUSE AND SENATE FRESHMEN ARE NOW IN THE CONGRESS.
Warren isn’t the only one who believes that Chavez-DeRemer’s support of the pro-union Master Act is a big deal despite the fact that she narrowly lost her reelection bid in a reasonable Oregon House area this time. Not everyone is, however, excited about it.
Democrats have been associated with a pro-business, anti-union position for years, but Trump has made inroads with blue shirt voters that helped him win Wisconsin, Michigan, and Pennsylvania en route to a next word.
His choice of Chavez-DeRemer can be seen as a smile to organizations like the International Brotherhood of Teamsters and the International Association of Fire Fighters, which broke tradition by veering off against Trump’s Democrat challenger.
Some GOPers, but, think Chavez-DeRemer’s openly pro-union attitude is a gate too much.
” Chavez-DeRemer’s support of Democrats ‘ extreme Pro Act makes her unfit to serve as Labor Secretary in the Trump supervision”, Job Creators Network CEO Alfredo Ortiz said. This policy is a” Great Work wish list that violates the rights of smaller businesses and regular workers.”
JCN complained that the PRO Act prevents the free speech of smaller businesses, may forcibly organise some companies, close right-to-work laws, and properly ban most sole proprietorships. It says the key difference for the fresh working-class GOP is to be pro-worker, no pro-union per se.
Chavez-DeRemer was criticized by the editorial board of the traditional National Review as a supporter of both federal employee organizations and the private sector’s unions. She also supported the Public Service Freedom to Negoti Act, which she claimed would “force the blue-state model of government organisations onto dark states.”
” Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, most Democrats in Congress, the professors ‘ organizations, AFSCME, the Teamsters, and Lori Chavez-DeRemer help the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act”, the editorial board wrote. ” No one Republican Senator does”.
However, Trump may struggle to convince Democrats to support his nomination more than Democrats.
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA ) addressed the audience shortly after Chavez-DeRemer was revealed, saying he looks forward to speaking with her about the Labor Department’s vision.
” I will need to understand her support for Democrat regulations in Congress that would remove Louisiana’s ability to be a right to work position,” he wrote on X.
Some Republican senators stand behind Chavez-DeRemer, such as Sen. Rick Scott (R-FL ), who , congratulated , her on social media and said he looked forward to working with her to” create better opportunities and bolster our economy”.
However, the support she’s received from the Left might cause awkwardness on Capitol Hill.
When the Chavez-DeRemer stories initially started to get heated up, American Federation of Teachers president Randi Weingarten, an almost universally despised figure among republicans, made an applauding article on X.
Warren described her assurance as a test of courage for Senate Republicans and Trump himself, apparently as a result of the GOP’s growing intra-party issue.
” This election is an early check: did Trump have powerful with workers or arrow down to his corporate sponsors and the Republican establishment’s opposition”? she wrote. And if Republican senators reject Trump’s workers nominee’s plans to join unions, it does demonstrate that the group’s support for employees is all talk.

The Labor Secretary’s work is more metaphorical than meaningful, according to Dan Bowling, who teaches work courses at Georgia State University, because the Department of Labor is frequently in charge of union-related things.
Even so, Chavez-DeRemer’s assurance challenge could be one of the strange coalitions coming up, with progressives like Warren supporting her while Republicans like Cassidy words their suspicion.
