The San Diego County project’s money comes from a state program grant that is funded by federal funds. Democrats and Newsom worry that Donald Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress did attempt to request money for the port of entry.
Next month, Newsom flew to Washington, D. C., to join with President Joe Biden and leading Democratic leaders to organize how to protect California initiatives, including Otay Mesa East Port of Entry.
Newsom has argued that a new port of entry may help reduce truck lag and hours-long truck lag when moving important products across the borders.
