Gasoline prices are continuing to decline across the nation. On Friday, the national average cost for regular gas fell to$ 3.026 per gallon, down from$ 3.063 a week ago.
Since the summers, the price of gasoline has steadily decreased. Tuesday’s rate is the lowest national average rate for gas since May 2021, when the regular price for regular oil was$ 2.985 per gallon, according to the Energy Information Administration. Since then, high gas prices have been a financial burden to drivers at over$ 3 per gallon and, for a brief period, over$ 4 per gallon.
During the majority of Joe Biden’s presidency, higher fuel prices have been a staple. After hitting record highs in 2022, the highest in the world’s history, gasoline prices began to lower later in the year. Gas prices started falling repeatedly in May 2024 after another spike in 2023, and they have since continued to do so every month.
However, despite the significant drop in fuel costs over the past half of the season, prices are still higher than they were when President-elect Donald Trump was in business between January 2017 and January 2021. It remains to be seen how much of an impact Trump’s administration will have on petrol prices now that he is scheduled to take office on January 20, 2025.
