How ChatGPT’s Canvas Can Help You Use AI More Productively

With many AI systems and algorithms competing against each other—there’s Navigator, Gemini, ChatGPT, Claude, and Perplexity, to name just a few—we’re seeing new changes and updates appear on a regular schedule. Canvas, one of the newest changes OpenAI has released to ChatGPT, resembles Google Docs in some ways.

You’re basically collaborating with the AI on a word file or program code, according to OpenAI, which describes it as” a new way of working with ChatGPT to read and script.” Of course, you can now do this in the major chat interface, but with Canvas it’s a little more like having an Artificial colleague with you.

Right now, you have to be a ChatGPT Enterprise, ChatGPT Pro, or ChatGPT Plus user ( from$ 20 a month ) to access the Canvas model. You’ll find it in the drop-down menu at the top of the chat display, in the top left corner.

    Getting Started With Canvas

You can begin using ChatGPT with the same rules as you would with Canvas as the AI unit. Use the swift box to specify the type of words you need to generate or the type of code you need to create. However, you do need to state something in your prompt to say that you want a new canvas created. For example, you could say something like” create a document” or” start a canvas.”

You’ll discover the well-known interact talk on the left and whatever you’re working on on the right when the ChatGPT Canvas program launches fully. You’ve got a couple different options below. You can physically type something in the canvas window, ask for adjustments, or choose things ChatGPT has created and ask for revisions.

What distinguishes Canvas from other cooperative modes is that these various options. buttons are located in the upper right part of your document to allow you to copy the text from other versions. Down in the lower right corner, however, you’ll get a pop-up tool that gives you a variety of possibilities, depending on whether you’re writing words or software code with ChatGPT.

If you’re writing, you can find equipment for suggesting changes, adjusting the length of the production ChatGPT has created, changing the studying levels of the word, polishing up the written productivity, or adding icon to the report. For example, visit Checking level, and you can use the sliders to make the wording more or less complicated.

For software, the same pop-up tool gives you options for reviewing the script, porting it to a different speech, fixing insects, adding logs, and adding feedback. For example, you can choose Add logs, then click the arrow that appears, and ChatGPT will drop in log statements for the code.

I’ll go over the writing options in ChatGPT Canvas in more detail than the coding options because I’m a writer rather than a programmer. Just know that if you’re using Canvas for programming, the tools and options work in a similar way.

You can simply click inside the text that ChatGPT has created to change it if you wish. You can also add or insert entirely new paragraphs. Any text, whether it’s been written by you or the bot, can be selected: That will then bring up a ChatGPT prompt window, where you can make changes to the selected text only. For instance, you might want to make the sentence structure of the chosen text more specific or to lengthen the text’s ideas.

You can click on the comments icon ( a small speech bubble ) on each paragraph to focus the AI bot on a specific block of text. Your ChatGPT questions don’t need to be about text changes. Without actually making any changes, you could ask whether a paragraph might be better placed elsewhere in a document, for instance, or ask ChatGPT to explain something.

As you submit more requests to ChatGPT, the pane on the left lets you see what it’s doing, and as usual, you can give a thumbs up or a thumbs down. You can collaborate and edit everything using the conversation on the left if it makes it simpler.

You don’t get much in the way of formatting tools, but you can highlight text and apply bold or italics, or create a heading. When you select text, a toolbar will immediately appear with these options. If your text needs to be broken up, ChatGPT will let you insert headings in appropriate places. It does seem to be a much more engaging way to create AI text, and it is especially useful if you still want to do some of the work yourself.
